Construction Automation and AI Management

With technological advancement, the construction industry progressively adopts artificial intelligence (AI) and construction automation technologies, enhancing construction efficiency, addressing labor shortage challenges, reducing resource waste, while ensuring engineering quality and safety standards. Kedge Construction commits to advancing digital transformation through AI and machine learning (ML) applications to optimize construction processes and progress toward the new era of Smart Construction.

AI-Driven On-Site Construction Management Technology

AI Construction Painting Automation Equipment

Painting operations represent the final phase of building projects, constituting the initial quality impression for customer handover and acceptance processes, thereby maintaining critical importance. Traditional painting operations rely heavily on manual labor, presenting challenges including inconsistent construction quality and labor shortage constraints. Throughout the past year, Kedge Construction has deployed AI construction painting automation equipment at construction sites for spraying operations. During 2024, we successfully completed painting robot spraying operations at the Taichung Yumaoyu construction site, covering 2,085 square meters of construction area. This automation equipment technology ensures coating uniformity, improves construction efficiency, and minimizes paint waste. Moving forward, we will continue implementing AI construction painting automation equipment in the New construction project of Linkou plant of a semiconductor equipment supplier to fulfill client requirements for construction quality, operational efficiency, and resource optimization.

AI Construction Masonry Automation

Equipment Masonry operations play a pivotal role during the finishing phases of building construction. However, labor shortage challenges continue to intensify, making the improvement of workforce gaps through AI construction masonry automation equipment a critical direction for future development. Kedge Construction plans to actively evaluate the implementation of AI construction masonry automation equipment at the Wanhua Zhixing Section construction site to enhance masonry construction precision and efficiency, reduce heavy reliance on traditional labor, and ensure construction standard consistency.

AI-Assisted Detection of Rebar Binding Deficiencies

Rebar binding precision remains critical to building structural safety integrity. However, during on-site inspection procedures, personnel qualification and experience variations may result in inconsistent standards and inspection completeness gaps. Therefore, we will actively evaluate deep learning (DL) and digital twin (DT) technology implementation to develop innovative rebar inspection methodologies. This technology enables stable inspection processes and quality assurance through construction site rebar assembly image capture combined with AI analysis capabilities. Additionally, digital twin technology provides precise inspection location marking, enabling rebar assembly correction operations and inspection issue tracking functionality. Simultaneously, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) can support rebar inspection operations in high-risk environments, further enhancing construction site safety performance.

AI Construction Automation Future Development in On-Site Construction

AI applications in construction automation have emerged as vital tools for addressing construction site labor shortages. Through related work categories AI construction automation equipment, AI-assisted detection of rebar binding deficiencies, we are transforming the traditional construction industry’s highly labor-intensive characteristics, progressively achieving the vision of AI- intelligent construction sites. Moving forward, Kedge Construction will continue investing in the development and application of AI intelligent construction and automated inspection technologies to enhance engineering project quality, improve worker environments, and strengthen corporate operational efficiency, realizing objectives of sustainable operations and intelligent construction.

Digital Transformation and Sustainable Development

Amid the construction industry’s digital transformation wave, our company actively implements automated management and system integration to enhance management efficiency, optimize data utilization, and strengthen decision-support capabilities.

During 2024, we concentrated on four core technology applications: data center integration, low-code development platforms, construction process automation (RPA), and artificial intelligence, advancing project management digitalization while improving operational precision and real-time performance to ensure more efficient operational workflows.

Looking ahead, we will pursue operational control digitalization, automation, and intelligence as core objectives, continuously promoting efficient, empowering management practices to maintain competitive advantages in construction management automation.

Data Center Integration

In 2024, the Cost Management Department concentrated on integrating and managing work processes with ERP workflows. Through comprehensive work process and management objective reviews, beyond ERP system optimization and customization, we independently developed systems (including low-code platform applications) to expand insufficient original ERP functionalities, ultimately establishing a data center that integrates diverse data sources, strengthens numerical verification mechanisms, and implements management dashboards, enabling management personnel to gain deeper problem insights and make precise decisions.

Through cloud ERP integration with engineering construction management systems, we achieve process automation where systems automatically calculate project input costs with daily data updates, allowing cost management personnel to focus solely on following up problematic projects. Additionally, “visualized” real-time reporting reduced project management personnel report generation time by approximately 50%, enabling colleagues to concentrate on higher-value business activities.

Low-Code Development Platform

Kedge Construction undertakes engineering projects spanning diverse fields including public works and transportation infrastructure. Consequently, construction site management requirements are extensive and complex, making it challenging for any single system to satisfy all user needs. Information technology personnel cannot develop customized systems for every individual project, resulting in construction site operations remaining in paper-based management phases. This changed in 2021 with the introduction of Microsoft’s cloud collaboration platform featuring low-code application development capabilities. Previously, APP development required information personnel to write programming code, but the low-code platform now enables general staff to build applications independently through graphical interfaces and logic configuration, reducing programming technical barriers and accelerating construction site management digitalization.

Through the low-code application development platform, we have shortened application development cycles, enabling colleagues to independently create reports, applications, and other digital tools. Consider construction site safety inspection and patrol operations as an example. Previously, these relied solely on human visual assessment and judgment with paper-based recording, creating inefficiencies and making continuous safety oversight tracking and improvement challenging. Today, colleagues develop work area patrol mobile applications through low-code platforms. During construction site patrols, personnel simply photograph conditions, select content through dropdown menus, and the application synchronously transmits information to safety offices and collaborative vendors while identifying deficiency issues, strengthening construction site safety protocols and risk reduction while eliminating paper record time and material consumption. Additionally, colleagues design reports through low-code development platforms, integrating diverse data sources, automatically calculating metrics, and generating comprehensive reports. During 2024, dozens of automatically generated reports including patrol documentation saved the company nearly NT$1 million in external development costs.

Construction Process Automation and Digital Management Enhancement

Kedge Construction continuously optimizes construction management workflows through automation technology implementation to enhance operational efficiency and precision. Our process automation systems automatically generate subcontract pricing summaries and retention logs for individual projects while dispatching notification emails to ensure seamless construction site confirmation and accounting settlement procedures. Furthermore, we established an annual planned revenue and investment planning platform that automatically generates operational planning files during annual planning initiation, incorporating automated reminder and version control mechanisms to improve annual plan execution efficiency and quality while advancing corporate digital transformation and lean management practices.

Artificial Intelligence Applications

Kedge Construction proactively addresses artificial intelligence (AI) technological advancement through Intelligence (AI) continued investment in AI-assisted operational research and applications to enhance operational efficiency and construction quality. We develop AI application instructional content, train seed personnel through hands-on education programs, and collaborate with partners on AI technology development to accelerate AI implementation within construction sectors. Moving forward, Kedge Construction will continue deepening AI technology integration, strengthening digital transformation initiatives, and achieving more efficient, sustainable construction management methodologies.
